MCIVER, SULLENGER posted by Helena McIver Howell on Monday, March 21, 2011

My gggrandfather William MCIVER arrived in Missouri from County Tyrone, Ireland, in late 1848 or early 1849. By the time of the 1850 Federal Census, he had married Lucinda SULLENGER. They were living in Fishing River Township, Ray County. My gggrandfather lived there until his death in 1872. I have been unable to find (a) the name of the funeral home that handled his funeral, (b) his obituary, (c) any newspaper mention of his death, early life, and/or survivors. Would greatly appreciate info on (a),(b), or (c).

SHAW, WATERMAN posted by Marietta Wilson Boenker on Tuesday, November 22, 2011

I found information about Morton in the History of Ray County, MO 1881 book. Found information on my ancestor, W. P. SHAW (i.e., William Pinckney SHAW) who was said to have built the first house there. W. P. Shaw was born 24 Jul 1823 in Fairfield, Tennessee. His family was headed West for the gold rush and they ended up staying in Missouri, in Morton. He married Julia A. WATERMAN who had come from New York to teach school. She was born in Perrysburg, Cattaraugus, NY. She died 14 Dec. 1875 in Brownsville (now Sweet Springs), MO. W. P.Shaw died 19 May 1895 in Sweet Springs, MO. Both are buried at the Fairfield Cemetery in Sweet Springs, MO.
