At the time of this tax list 1821 Ray County covered all of the areas now included in the counties of Clay, Carroll, Clinton, DeKalb, Gentry, Worth, Caldwell, Daviess, Harrison, Livingston, Grundy, and Mercer.

This book was found Feb. 21, 1918 and was brought to the offices of the Richmond Missourian where it was first published and the names of Ray county voters in the year 1836 were published. This section of land known as Marion Twp. was later to be incorporated into Caldwell county
