Ray County History 1973, p. 233: The first family cemetery was started about 1836 northeast of the home "Easthill". In 1854 the Watkins-Allen cemetery was opened just north of "Easthill", and the bodies and markers of the Allen family were moved there. In 1886 the children of Charles and Henrietta Watkins organized the Watkins-Allen Cemetery Association.

The land was surveyed and divided into eight sections which were allotted to the eight living children. In compliance with their mother's wishes and request a central obelish of Vermont marble eighteen feet high was erected. In 1920 William Henry Watkins erected a woven wire fence around the cemetery and purchased a right of way from the public road to the cemetery. He also set up a fund of $5,000.00 for its keep. It is a very quaint and interesting place. Two "Real Daughters" of Revolutionary soldiers are buried there.
