follow Route O north of Orrick for about three miles to Blain Hill Rd. This will be the first gravel road you come to that tees off up into the hills to your right. Riffe is just to the right after you turn onto the gravel road. Continue on Blain Hill Road which merges into Rock Falls Road after about a mile. Rowland Cemetery will be on your left. It's marked by a low wooden sign. Drive somewhat slowly along the gravel road and you won't miss it. If you come to the big fork in the road, you've gone too far. (Rock Falls church lies just down the right-hand, main fork of this road). Tree Climber Notes v. 3, p. 40: Woods' were located near the entrance, Clark's along the east side, Brown's, Bellis', Williams' along the west side, and Rowlands at the far north side of the cemetery. It has been told that the cemetery is composed of, perhaps, three earlier cemeteries. They have been combined and the directors were trying to get it incorporated. John F. and Arthur Brown were sons of William and Sarah Ann (White) Brown. Sarah Ann was a daughter of Merritt M. White, early Ray County settler. James O. Williams was the son of Dr. C. and Eliza (White) Williams. She was a sister of Sarah Ann, above. Eliza Bellis was the daughter of James O. and Nettie (Rimmer) Williams. --- this cemetery may have also been called Woods Cemetery: Samuel Woods, Sr. owned the land on the 1897 plat map and death certificate for Anna M. Benedict d. February 26, 1910 in Fishing River Twp buried in Woods Cemetery; 1910 census indicates she & family lived in Orrick Twp, Orrick Village; husband's name was V.A. Benedict, lived in Orrick Twp in 1900 and Nebraska in 1870. There's a Mrs. P.A. Bendict listed in the transcription [no dates] death certificate for Iva E. Lee d. June 27, 1910 in Fishing River Twp buried in Woods Cemetery. There's an Iva Lee listed in the transcription [no dates] |
