1973 Ray County History; p. 230 | #10, Richmond Twp [actually in Fishing River Twp]; The Hamilton Cemetery is located 1/4 mile north of Highway 10, 3/4 mile east of Elkhorn on a one acre plot. In 1973 the land is owned by William Irons. the land was originally settled on the government grant ground by Willis Hamilton, M.D. The stones in this cemetery can be seen during the winter months from the highway. Many of the stones are legible and tell the sad story of high infant mortality of the pioneer times. | |||||||

Big Black Cemetery Binder | Located north of Hwy 10 near Elkhorn, on farm of Sam Irons (1978)
From Elkhorn travel east on Highway 10 to the TV tower, to Sammy Irons house [1978]. At the next house, east, north side of highway, go through three gates. The cemetery is partially fenced. There is one partly dead walnut tree, probably visible from the highway. This cemetery, probably 1/4 mile from the Craven Headstone, may be a related family. The Hamilton Cemetery has been listed by Zelma Stanley Conner, daughter of Dean B. Stanley, Grandview, Missouri. This cemetery is difficult to list. It is weedy and covered with tiny oak sprouts. |

Other Comments |
It has been told that this cemetery was dozed under, but that is not true. The current land owner has taken an interest in the cemetery and has stopped much of the deterioration that had been happening (2008). |
