The Geneology Branch's 12,000 square foot annex is east of the North Independence Public Library Building. Mid-Continent's genealogy collection includes 60,000 books, 46,000 rolls of microfilm and 100,000 microfiche. The collection features the entire U.S. population census schedules for 1790 to 1930 for all states as well as family histories and county source records

The center offers a computerized family search program, including a library catalog with access to the church's Salt Lake City records, an international genealogy index of more than 250 million names, an ancestral file, a Social Security index and Scottish church records. The center also contains county and states records, family histories, and other records.

The library is dedicated to the history of the westward expansion along the Santa Fe, California and Oregon trails. It contains many rare books about the three westward trails, numerous maps, original diaries, and access to an emigrant database.
