Morton

I found information about Morton in the History of Ray County, MO 1881 book. My ancestor, W. P. Shaw (i.e., William Pinckney Shaw) was said to have built the first house there. W. P. Shaw was born 24 Jul 1823 in Fairfield, Tennessee. His family was headed West for the gold rush and they ended up staying in Missouri, in Morton. He married Julia A. Waterman who had come from New York to teach school. She was born in Perrysburg, Cattaraugus, NY. She died 14 Dec. 1875 in Brownsville (now Sweet Springs), MO. W.P.Shaw died 19 May 1895 in Sweet Springs, MO. Both are buried at the Fairfield Cemetery in Sweet Springs, MO.
