1973 Ray County History: The first New Hope (Methodist) Cemetery was located north west of the present-day one and was from the land of George Haynes. Some of the names of people buried here were: Kincaid, Hannah, McBee, and Penny. It was discontinued in 1868 when the present day land was donated by J. A. Albert. This land was to be used for public burial but problems developed, and in a few years it was plotted.

In 1908 additional land was acquired and plotted; a trust fund of five hundred dollars was established to care for the ground. The first grave stone that can be found shows the name of Ross, 1868 and is located just south of the church. Tom Pinkerton served as first chairman for his life time; B. M. Kincaid was elected to succeed him, then W. H. Frazier.

In 1926 deeds were given for lots purchased. In 1969 more land owned by the Cemetery Association was plotted for sale.

New Hope Cemetery, east of Millville on Route K, is a beautiful spot. It is located on one of the highest hills in this area with a beautiful view in all directions.
