Ray County History 1973, p. 233-234:The Hardin Cemetery had its beginning around the year 1850 on land purchased from J. H. Snowden and wife at the southeast corner of Hardin. At first there was a church located on part of the cemetery land. The church was later moved into Hardin. The size of the cemetery at first was one acre, but purchases of more land were made from time to time until now the cemetery consists of seven acres which will be sufficient land to last for a number of years. There are approximately 1200 people buried there. A list of all of the graves was made a few years ago. In the past few years a number of improvements have been made to the cemetery, including a new entrance from Highway 10 with brick pillars. Some of the drives have been black topped and all graveled. Major Gibbs has been the caretaker for several years, and he has been doing a good job. The cemetery is incorporated. The present officers are: Cliff Boggess, President; Roy Young, Vice President; W. A. Rhodes, Treasurer, and Mrs. Temple Knipschild, Secretary. The cemetery has an endowment fund which has been built up during the past few years by donations from interested parties and legacies from wills of people who have died. Among those who have given rather large sums to the cemetery fund are Mr. & Mrs. E. M. Chase, Mrs. J. B. Robinson, D. A. Young, and W. A. Sharp. All of the above mentioned have passed away except Mrs. J. B. Robinson. Burial lots are sold at $25.00 per grave. The Hardin community is proud of its cemetery and the way it has been kept. (1973)
