1973 Ray County History (p. 237): Among the remains of Sunshine, which still stands in a deserted area, is a most fascinating community cemetery. It is over one hundred years old [1973], and estimated that there are at least two hundred pioneers buried there.

In 1960 a memorial was held and a monument dedicated to the pioneers of Sunshine Community. The untiring efforts and enthusiasm of W. E. Stigall, together with the contributions of other descendants of the pioneers made this memorial possible. Today [1973] the cemetery is kept by Mr. Stigall's son Bill. Because of flooding conditions, few have been buried there since 1903.
