ADAMS posted by Rose Adams on Tuesday, November 4, 1997

Were there marriage records in Ray County in 1895-6? I have been told that a fire destroyed birth and death records held in Jefferson City before 1910. Is this true? I am looking for a marriage record for Willy or William ADAMS and Rosa Catherine ADAMS. They were first cousins according to family. She was born in Ray county along with all her siblings. I also have a deed of property sold to a George ADAMS book 9 pg. 324. I am wondering if George was Benjamin's brother. IS there any other place where records of Ray County can be found? She was from Ray County, I don't know which town they lived in at the time. The census doesn't say. Can you tell me where to look for records from this time period? Rose Adams

HOLMAN, WILLIAMS posted by Bobby Ray Barbee on Wednesday, November 26, 1997

I am interested in information on any and all of the following people: The 1880 U.S. census for Knoxville Township in Ray County listed J.S. HOLMAN as the head of family living as a farmer with his wife M.A. (maiden name WILLIAMS) and the following children: G.E. (daughter born circa 1875 in Missouri) and Rena (born circa 1876 in Missouri; died between 1910 [was on the U.S. census then] and 1929 in Oklahoma but Oklahoma Vital Records doesn't have a death certificate on file for her from 1910 through 1929) (Rena is my maternal great-grandmother). J.S. HOLMAN was born circa 1845 in Missouri. His parents were both born in Tennessee. M.A. WILLIAMS HOLMAN was born circa 1857 in Missouri. Her parents were both born in North Carolina. J.S. and M.A. also had one other child named Herchel (born circa 1891 in Missouri; occupation: lumbermill worker; he was married to a woman named Ethel and they had a daughter named Thelma; Herchel died in Picher, Ottawa County, Oklahoma at 48 years old and is buried in Greenlawn Cemetery northwest of Picher). J.S. and M.A. WILLIAMS HOLMAN are my maternal great-great grandparents.

CAREY, SUTHERLIN posted by Don Bishop on Saturday, November 29, 1997

I am looking for information and descendents of Thomas Nail and Sarah SUTHERLIN married in Ray County, MO either late 1850's or early 1860's. Her sister Elizabeth C. SUTHERLIN married Simon CAREY from Ireland in Ray County December 1863. I am interested in finding information on Simon CAREY, but have been unable to find where he is buried and more informtion about where he came from other than County Clare, Ireland. My thought is that perhaps the sister's line might have some information on Elizabeth SUTHERLIN and Simon CAREY.

January __, 1855 d. _____________, 1927. They were married Aug. 27, 1872 in Vibbard. I believe that both are buried in Craven Cemetary. Willis was the son of Joseph HESS b. Sept. ___, 1815 d. Sept. __, 1855 and Margaret DUNBAR b. _________ d. _____________. They were married in Sept. of 1840 in Polk Co. Family stories say that they are buried in Richmond in the "old city cemetary" Olivia was the daughter of George ADKINS (VA native) and Nancy (MO native). Can you help fill in any of the gaps in the info? Thanks Brian
