QRYTEXT:Looking for the ancestors of Jonas Albert ELLIOTT I, born 1795 in NC or SC & died in Mar 1850 in Drywood Township, Bates County, Mo. He married Elizabeth YOUNG about 1814 in Jackson or White County, Tn. They came to Mo between 1832 & 1835, settling for a short time in Lafayette County before coming to Ray County by 22 Apr 1838 when their daughter, Sarah Ann was born. Their son, John M ELLIOTT (b. 26 May 1820, Tn - 27 Oct 1876, Ray Co, Mo) married Rebecca Jane WILSON, daughter of Solomon WILSON & Elizabeth STEPHENS on 1 June 1841 in Ray County. We think Jonas' father's name was Archibald ELLIOTT & his mother was Nancy. Does anyone have proof of this? Is anyone out there working on this family? Will gladly share what we have. QRYTEXT:I am looking for a relative who may be in possession of the family bible of the TARWATER's.  That being Lewis and Polly TARWATER.  Emaline TARWATER, a daughter of Lewis, had the bible, she then married William H. EDWARDS, they had a child, William Henry EDWARDS. William Henry EDWARDS married Mary PORTER on 18 January 1874 in Ray County, MO. They had seven children.  Per the 1900 census they lived in Orrick, MO. Some of the children died, but I am thinking that maybe one of their children, George EDWARDS who married Amy ROBINSON on 15 October 1899, may have the bible, or their children. QRYTEXT:My ancestor, Absalom P FREE, was an original landowner 
in Ray County about 1836. But I cannot find any information about him. Do you know of any journals, diaries, reminisences from this township that cover 1836-1840? Perhaps they will mention Absalom FREE, or at least tell me what it was like to live in this township at that time.

Also, if you have any idea where the earliest civil and criminal indexes are, please tell me. I was unable to find them at the courthouse. The people there were very kind, but the earliest civil and criminal index was 
missing - being used by a researcher I believe.

Also, I have just learned, that Absalom P FREE'sparents, Andrew and Polly FREE, may have been buried in 1838 or 1839. Are there cemetery records for that time period?

Thanks so much for your patience, and I hope you can answer my three questions:

1. Do first-person accounts from people living in Ray County in the 1830s exist? If so, do you know where they are and how I can look at them?

According to the Dallas Directory from the late 1880's/early 1890's it was apparent that Ida May's parents (or father only), Riley H. Bunch lived at the same address as Ida May and James Albert. QRYTEXT:After posting to this site earlier today, I found a site on Ancestry.com regarding marriages in Missouri from 1850 to 1900. The name KINCAID appears numerous times in Ray County. Our name is spelled KINKAID which appeared once as did KINKADE. Considering that our Ida May's mother, Isabella Dawson came from Ontario, Canada as did my husband's grandfather James Albert KinKaid and the fact that the Dawson's came to Ray County leads us to believe that there is a connection between all these Kincaid/Kinkaid/Kinkade names. Reviewing the marriage records we found a few entries which we believe tie our DAWSON & KINKAID/KINCAID/KINKADE together.
