 I have stumbled onto the website  which includes “A Directory of towns, Villages, and Hamlets Past and Present of Ray County, Missouri”  compiled by Arthur Paul Moser.


In the appendix of the publication of previous paragraph is listed  “Brownsburgh” .  It was  platted by John and Matilda BROWN in January, 1874 on 33 acres near Tinney’s Point.  I have an old atlas and it shows a Tinney, Mo in the northeast corner of Ray County.  Do you know?  Is this Tinney’s Point? 


Any suggestions as to where I might find any more “footprints” left by John and Matilda BROWN?  Are John and Matilda in your database by any chance?

He was born about 1818 in Kentucky and died about 1905 in Missouri. He was known to have lived in Decauter County, Iowa, and the following counties in Missouri: Livingston, Lafeyette, Grundy, Mercer, Daviess, Caldwell, and Ray.


I don't know where he or Martha Jane are buried or even where they died. I remember hearing my father and his brothers say he was stabbed in a fight.

QRYTEXT:My grandfather, James Otis BARCLAY was born in Sparta, White County, TN in 1862. His father,Alexander BARCLAY, was killed near there in the Civil War when James was 6 mos. old. Some time after 1862 his family moved to RAY COUNTY, MO. I have a tin type picture of James about 7-8 years old pasted to a paper frame. On the back of the picture it says RAY COUNTY, MO. I also have a picture of his mother, Catherine elson BARCLAY that says on the back, RAY COUNTY, MO. James siblings were: Franklin (who later married Rebecca BROWN) and moved to Polk Co., MO, Columbus, Nancy and Amanda. James later moved to Polk County, MO to live with his brother. As he appears on the 1880 Polk County Census. It is possible that Catherine BARCLAY may have remarried. Does anyone have any info they are willing to share on this family? Anything would be appreciated.

QRYTEXT:I am looking for any information on the family of John WILSON, born c. 1834 in Illinois. He was listed in the census of 1900, as living in Excelsior Springs, as was his son Ulysses (b. 1871)and son Charlie (B1876). In 1900 he was with his second wife, Mollie, and had two daughters with her - Belina (1885) and Lizzie (1886). All the men were stone masons, as was another son, George, who apparently was the contractor of several buildings in Excelsior Springs. I have information on George, but would like to know what happened to the rest of the family.

William LANDINGHAM died Dec. 18, 1850 in Holt Co. At the time of his death he was known as James LANDINGHAM. Rebecca moved with her children and extended family to Oregon in 1851. She there married a man named Daniel B. PUTMAN. I suspect the the origin of the LANDINGHAM family name was VAN LANDINGHAM but haven't been able to find any links yet. Any clues would be greatly appreciated.

QRYTEXT:My grandparents were both born and raised in the Richmond, Ray Co. areas. I am looking for information on John (Jay) Hugh and Mary (MCKINNEY) HEROD. He was born in Ray Co. around the 1840's and she in Missouri around 1844. Mary's parents were Phillip and Janet MCKINNEY. They were living in Richmond in 1880. I am also looking for John T. and Melinda Belle (GOBLET) LILE. I know of two of their children: Sherman LILE and my great grandmother Neelie Grace (LILE) HEROD. Neelie died 2- 12-1952 and is buried in Ray Co. I am also looking for information on David (born around 1835) and Menirva (born around 1838) HALL. They too were living in Richmond in 1880. Their children: Andrew, John, Abraham, Allen (my great grandfather born around 1867), Larkey, Willis, James, Charles, and William. Allen HALL married Katherine LLOYD on January 23, 1888 in Ray Co. Katherine's mothers maiden name was MIDDLETON. Katherine died in 1901 in Ray Co. To my knowledge they had three children: Everett HALL, Nora HALL and my grandfather Lewy Virgil HALL, Sr. He was born 9-16-1898 in Orrick, MO.

William emigrated from County Tyrone, Ireland in late 1840s(exact year unknown) and settled in Ray County (date unknown).He appears in 1860 census as age 43. Family memory says he may have emigrated with a sibling, but no documentation to support this.  Are there other MCIVERs in the vicinity in 1850 time frame? I would like to learn William's date of death and date of birth.  What historical event or situation would serve as a magnet for an immigrant from Ireland to settle in Ray County? lived there until his death in 1872. I have been unable to find (a) the name of the funeral home that handled his funeral, (b) his obituary, (c) any newspaper mention of his death, early life,  and/or survivors.
